5 Netflix shows parents need to watch out for

They all have some redeeming features - and a few have even received critical raves. But that doesn’t mean they’re  suitable for children and younger teens.

ARROW

arrow

Based on DC comics character Oliver Queen, a billionaire’s son who returns to Sterling City after being stranded on a deserted island, seeking revenge under the guise of the Arrow. Featuring drinking, drugs, deaths and dark themes.

Rated 13+

AMERICAN VANDAL

American vandal

A comedy series that satirises true-crime shows and social media. Plenty of vulgarity - graffiti’d penises are at the centre of the plot - swearing and casual drug-use. Kids may miss the satire.

Rated 15+

ON MY BLOCK

on my block

A series about four friends growing up in a troubled neighbourhood in Los Angeles. Stories centre on a supportive peer group but routinely feature gun and gang violence, teen sex and drug use.

Rated 15+

INSATIABLE

insatiable3

A high-school revenge plot about a girl who loses weight and strikes back at her bullies. This one really has NO redeeming features. Described by as “unpleasant, campy comedy” featuring “violence, awful messages.” Enough said?

Rated 16+

BIG MOUTH

bit-mouth-poster

An animated comedy about a group of teens obsessed with sex and bodies. Pretty much as raunchy as you’d expect. Definitely unsuitable for kids and younger teens.

Rated 16+
