A school community approach to cyber safety.

A message from the Principal

Dear Blockhouse Bay parents,

Digital technology has opened up a world of exciting possibilities for our tamariki. At the same time, it has multiplied potential risks.

Technology provides our students with wonderful opportunities. However, devices can also negatively impact development, education, safety and health.

Our school’s goal is to protect every student from the risks associated with the internet and provide students with safe networks for learning - at school, home and everywhere in between.

While our school provides a safe network, we need your help to ensure safe internet access when students are off the school network, at home, or on mobile data.

That’s why we’ve partnered with NZ’s leading provider of cyber safety and digital-awareness services to school communities: Family Zone. Keeping our children safe online is a challenge that requires our entire school community to work together, and Family Zone is the right platform to enable us to do so.

Please take the following steps as soon as you can:
  1. Watch the videos below, and read the information under each one which explains things in more detail.
  2. Activate your Family Zone account through the email you've been sent. If you did not receive the email, please contact office@bhbint.school.nz
  3. Follow the steps in the section 'How to install Mobile Zone' to get it running on your child's device.

Cyber Safety: It's as easy as 1-2-3.

What does this mean for students?

We want to create cyber-safe school communities where students thrive, but we also recognise that implementing Family Zone can be a daunting time for some students. That's why we have created this video to explain what it means in practical terms for students at Family Zone schools.
