A message from the Principal

Digital technology has opened up a world of possibilities for our children. At the same time, it has multiplied potential risks.

Our goal is to protect every student from exposure to online threats - from inappropriate content to cyberbullying. That’s why we’ve partnered with Australia’s leading provider of cyber safety and digital-awareness services, Family Zone.

To complete the circle of safety for your child, however, we need your participation.

All families from Mount Lawley Senior High School are entitled to a Family Pack paid by the school. There is no cost to families. A Family Pack contains enough Mobile Zone apps to cover 3 children & 6 Devices. For more information please see the "Cost's & Guidelines" section of this website.

By setting up a private Family Zone account, you can apply age-appropriate parental controls on every device your child has access to, in any location.

In early Term 1 2019 you will receive an email from Family Zone inviting you to activate your account and commence protecting your children's devices.

Only by working together can we meet our digital duty of care - at school, at home, and everywhere in between.

What do you need to do?

Wait for the activation email from Family Zone, then activate your account.

Install Family Zone on your children's devices, run and install.

Manage via our Family Zone app. Download to your own Apple or Android device.

How to install Family Zone

Click the icon for your child’s device operating system for instructions.

Chromebook

To install Family Zone on a Chromebook, you need:

An active Family Zone account
Your child’s Chromebook

Repeat the steps below for each and every Google account your child uses on their Chromebook.

Installation Guide:
1. Browse to www.familyzone.com/laptops
2. Scroll down and select Download for Chromebook
1. This will open Google Chrome Web Store. Select Add to Chrome.
2. Select Add extension.
3. Enable Mobile Zone (Education Edition) extension in incognito mode.
  This is important because by default, Google Chrome disables extensions in Incognito mode. Your child may exploit this to bypass filtering.
  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Browse to chrome://extensions into your Chrome browser
  3. On the Mobile Zone (Education Edition) extension and select Details
  4. Enable Allow in Incognito
4. Click on the recently added Mobile Zone extension.
5. Sign in with your Family Zone email address and password.
6. Update the device name, select the device owner and click sign in.
7. Mobile Zone for Chromebook (Education Edition) is now protecting your device

Family Zone is now protecting your child’s Chromebook.

*Your school may have already installed the Family Zone extension to your child’s Google account. Look for the above extension icon in your child’s Chrome browser when signed into their school-issued Google account.

Family Zone for Chrome works best when children are not the admin on the device. Read our advice here.

Where do I go for help?

How do I sign into my child’s device?
You may need to ask your child to sign into their device so you can install Family Zone.

My child’s device is asking for a password when I’m installing the software, what do I do?
You will need to get the password off your child to continue the install.

My children share a Chromebook and each child has his/her own Google account to sign in. Will they all be protected?
You need to install the Family Zone Chrome extension for each Google account you want to protect on that Chromebook. Read our advice here.

Am I able to change the controls?
Yes! Access your Family Zone account at portal.familyzone.com and log in with your Family Zone account details. Alternatively, download our Family Zone app onto your own device to manage Family Zone settings on the go.
