Access to technology is essential if our children are to to take full advantage of the benefits offered by new forms of digital learning. Providing access to this technology also affords us the opportunity to set expectations with students around appropriate use of the internet and devices like mobile phones, tablets computers and iPads.

Family Zone ensures the safety and wellbeing of our students is maintained while they are online, and allows us to monitor and help students navigate the complex online environment and provide a holistic approach to cyber safety.

Woodlands Primary School - Parents wanting cyber safety at home can create a free Family Zone account.   It is free for the rest of 2017 & then we have arranged special affordable pricing from Family Zone for 2018 (see offer page).

Family Zone

What is Family Zone?

Family Zone the company is an Australian based innovator in Cyber Safety. Family Zone provides parental control technology that can be installed by parents at home and cyber security technology that can be employed by schools. These platforms work together to allows schools and parents to work together to develop a cyber safe and cyber savvy generation.

How does it work?

School Zone is Family Zone’s cyber safety platform for schools. By enabling the community feature of School Zone, the schools get visibility into Family Zone for students.

School visibility is on an opt-in basis on (by the parent) and is only for relevant information such as apps installed on mobile device.

School Zone community ie enabled by parents (or schools) installing Family Zone’s Mobile Zone technology on their children’s devices and then opt-ing in.

Family Zone then connects the school and home reporting systems.

That’s it.

What is a Cyber Expert?

The use of connected technology is changing so fast. Risks emerge daily and few parents can keep up. Understanding this challenge we have teamed up with trusted Cyber Experts. By choosing a Cyber Expert you adopt their recommendations and take advantage of their ongoing efforts to identify and limit the threats to your kids, which means one less thing you have to worry about! Will Family Zone slow down the internet?

No. Family Zone uses an innovative ‘fast filtering technology’ on the Home Networking service. The effect of the Family Zone filters should be imperceptible to most users. Family Zone also by default does not block or track adult users. And our Box includes an Unfiltered WiFi network so adults, media devices or whatever else you choose can be easily set to bypass the Family Zone entirely.

  • 90% of teen boys visit porn sites
  • 4% of teen boys have problem gambling
  • Less than 25% of teens get sufficient sleep
  • 45% of pre-teens use unsafe social apps
  • 70% of teens say they’ve been exposed to cyberbullying

We’re doing this because the welfare and educational outcomes of our students require it.

School Zone Community is this enablement of the interaction of Family Zone’s at school, at home and on mobile device platforms.

What is expected of parents?

We have simple message for parents. We expect parents to:

  • Engage with their kids use of technology
  • Monitor their kids use of technology and enforce rules
  • Participate in school cyber safety programmes
  • Implement parental controls on any device that could come to school

We also urge parents to implement parental controls at home.

Family Zone is recommended, but not mandatory.

Within Family Zone you can opt out of sharing information with the school.

What is a Cyber Expert?

The Family Zone platform offers parents and schools the ability to work with professional cyber safety experts to create recommend policy settings, support material and advice.

Family Zone calls them Cyber Experts and they’re of enormous value because the use of connected technology is changing so fast. Risks emerge daily and few parents can keep up.

We strongly recommend you choose our recommended Cyber Expert and subscribe to their cyber safety package in Family Zone.

Can I cancel Family Zone?

Family Zone can be cancelled at any time, but it is not recommended.
